Dawn RideI ride into the morning My rig hangs from my shoulders Lightweight for the fight The engine vibrates under my boots.Dawn Ride
I glance around idly Exchange a nod, a look Apprehension on every face Determined silence.
I start to worry, as usual Do I have enough bandage? Enough gauze? Enough tape? Are the radios charged?
I look to my colleague New medic, second job I smile, try to look calm The tension breaks.
The singing starts Protestors' jukebox The other minibus passes Why aren't we as calm as them? &nbs

Impasse. The human carpet rolls Massive, unending, pathetic A shadow of its potential Fleeting.Impasse.
Thousands of bodies Young and fit Idealistic, rebellious The police are cowed.
It could happen right now We have the numbers We have the power But we are weak.
I know this as we set off The banners call for revolt The placards say no war It is all a lie.
From sheep to sheep A horizontal move The sound machine sings of rebellion While the mass marches idly.
No heed to necessity Only to conformity &nb

Such it is.First bike I owned was stolen Out the back yard, life was hard The scarred set against the scarred Living for the day Tomorrow's the same anyway Learnt how to survive My life, dodging the knife Nearly twenty-one and I still got the strife Sometimes I make a brew and I see proof Of lead in the pipes And that's the least of it The air's thick I'm sick of it Living in London breathing shit all the time If I wanted black lungs I would've gone down the mine I shrug, it's fine It's just living And I can only live the life that I'm given Gotten usedSuch it is.

Inner BeautyA freak of nature, Or so you say, The wrong brain In the wrong body, A horror to behold.Inner Beauty
No.
You wonder how I can look upon you And see something to love.
You wonder how I can look upon you And manage not to flinch.
Shall I tell you darling? Shall I help you understand?
When I look upon you I see who you really are, I look past your body and I see into your soul.
Inside you are beautiful; A kind and caring person.
Inside you are beautiful; A fiery, pasionate person.
Inside yo

"Who I am""Who I am""Who I am"
One lonely day, God was giving us our genders, He was already tired from this morning's agenda. Saw our souls floating in the air. With a sigh, he booted us down to Earth without care And he said, "Figure it out when you get there."
Chorus: Well, thanks to him, I'm figuring out who I am the hard way, These feelings burn up inside me all day, Thought that maybe somebody could understand me today, Don't assume I'm gay, misunderstood, or that I pray this'll fly away. I've been led astray from the road to freedom, But I promised myself that I'd

When I have seen your church go up in flames
And you are weeping I will laugh
When I have seen you mourn over loved ones
I will feel bliss when your mortal soul is in ruins.

Its an interesting conudrum if we want democracy should allow the extremes- remember I saw the exteme of socialism and anything in excess a strength become a weakness. If we don't want extremes then how do we ensure that- and in ensuring that how do we not become an extreme!
Re voting does it really matter who we vote for at this time.
As for BNP surely its society that we need to remedy peoples behaviour reflects a multitude of things and disadvantage, poverty. Cutting things off tend to be like hydra heads- you cut it and two more grows. We've got to address the underlying reasons for the hatred and fear and build a more equal society - although thinking about it I guess that this is what you mean its just that we are coming at the same solution from different approaches , a weird type of soul sisters

ANL-well only a few talked about killing( and most of us really didn't like that ) but of course that bit was well publicised many of us were and are pacifists. The societal changes over the 70s and 80s are now unbelivable. Stuff that many take for granted. When I was 13+ Coventry was really rough, lots of alcohol and glassing " too much fighting on the dance floor!" .They meant Tiffanies which is now the library. I only went there a couple of times as it was mainly young girls trying to cop off with older men- yuck ( although having gone to a straight club a couple of years ago nothing seems to have changed) never had time for that.
I'm a Consultant in Public Health- I thought about being a doctor but wanted to make a difference for real people so became an environmental health officer, then did x year community development with a public health specialism in a Local Authority, then joined the NHS then became a Consultant- there are more and more of us none medics within Public Health we just have to demonstrate we are working at a senior enough level by retrospecitive portfolio- dullest work ever.
My remit is to reduce health inequalities and increase social inclusion. I also have the remit around tobacco control and sensible drinking- a very challenging brief! Big problems developing around this. Also Community Safety- can you imagine working with the police! my mum and dad thought it very funny. Would have never believed it x years ago but there is so much changed in the police- its still got a long way to go but I've had to change my mind about a lot. Yep they know some of my history- never charged although frequently arrested. That's what they tended to do to many of the women you just got a whole lot of verbal Told you things had changed
Thatcher has etched an acid stain on the soul of this country. We have a pm who admires her- think that speaks volumes. A freind of mine who was very active in gay rights found out that she was being transfered onto a plane with him in America. He got off- couldn't live with the idea that he'd share her recyled air. Thats how many of us still feel
Thanks about your kind words about my gallery- keep in touch

It's also nice to meet someone who perhaps remembers Coventry how I do, ie: when there was work and less skag. Methinks Nostradamus wrote for The Specials...
Public health sounds good, what kind of stuff do you do? I'm halfway through pre-med, doubling that up with a diploma in human anatomy, gonna do med school after that. Gonna have crippling debts when I'm done, but nursing just isn't giving me the kind of autonomy that I want.
As for Thatcher - did she really leave? Or is she wearing a rubber mask in the likeness of one A. Blair? Me and a comrade have two somewhat idle plans for when she snuffs it - we're either gonna put a dance mat on her grave and bring a DJ, or we're gonna put a portaloo on there and charge admission. All proceeds towards campaigning, et cetera...
I like your gallery, great pics and seemingly from a diverse range of places. Very cool.

Great to see young people giving a toss about something- I was the last of my generation before Thacher got her claws into turning every one into the me society, for ages there were no young people joining or giving much of a damn, ecology was many peoples route back into polticisation. Have some heritage Greenham, Blair Peach, Anti-apartid, Rock against racisim, Miners strike, Gay Pride (used to be called that-even thats been sanitised- lol) ( arrested twice, no charges)My friend died a few months after Terrence Higgins so got into HIV work and then public health. So now, well I'm an activist but in a different way- public health, trying to reduce povery and inequality playing the systems. When I was younger I don't think I would have approved of some of me now
Interesting to see your links with Eastern Europe I knew it pre the wall coming down as well as during and after.I was in Czechosolvakia, East Germany ( admittedly I shouldn't have been there, bit of a sneek in visit for a coupe of days in the chaos and disinterest before the fall of the wall) and Poland. Seems such a long time ago now. Anyway great to see your stuff
